How to spruce up your home for Spring

Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 by Team Arrow

Spring is here and it’s time to freshen up your home with some wonderful new additions. Since we can now formally wave goodbye to winter and the projects we all tackle during those colder months, there’s plenty of room for some spring home improvements!

But what exactly can you do to your home this Spring to spruce things up a little?

Add a little green to spring up your home

1. Get a little green

We’ve all gone a little plant crazy lately, with social media full of indoor jungles! Using greenery or fresh flowers to bring the outdoors in is one of the best ways to liven up your home ready for Spring.

Not only can indoor plants make your home look wonderful and welcoming, with studies also showing that they may reduce stress levels, boost your productivity and even sharpen your attention. Indoor plants are great whether you have a garden space or not!

Spring cleaning in the bathroom

2. Have a Spring clean

Over winter, we all tend to gather things we probably don’t need. Spring is the perfect opportunity to rummage through those cupboards and declutter your belongings.

Whether you’re giving things away, recycling, or even upcycling items, getting organized at home can make your living space feel much bigger too.

Let’s face it, the trend of home organizing is pretty popular, so don’t be afraid to go labeling storage, either.

3. Find the scents of Spring

Who doesn’t love a good candle? As the seasons change, often so do the scents we love to smell around our home. During winter, we think of log fires, homely meals and cozy smells, but when Spring comes around, there’s nothing quite like the smell of linen or fresh lavender in preparation for the summer ahead.

Whether you opt for room spray, candles or even a diffuser, there’s no better way to spruce your home up for Spring than with refreshing smells.

4. Add a decking space

While the Springtime may not be full of sunshine, it is very much the built-up to summer. When you choose to install a deck, you’ll be quickly increasing your living space, as well as adding value to your home.

So whether you’re already excited to crack out the hot tub or you can’t wait for that perfect summer barbecue, adding a decking space may be an ideal Spring spruce-up project.

Gutter Guards

5. Get your gutters at the ready

Protecting your home is important all year round, but most certainly during the colder, wetter months of the year. Plenty of us complete winter tasks and DIY jobs inside, but frequently forget the need to keep our gutters well-maintained!

Keeping your gutters and downspouts in good working order can prevent your home from running into serious leak problems, including roof and foundation leaks.

Installing gutter guards offer the ideal weather protection for your home, so you can rest assured your home is ready, come rain or shine!

Bathroom renovation refresh

6. Refresh your bathroom

There are so many reasons to remodel your bathroom, with Spring acting as the perfect opportunity for a little refresh indoors. Our bathrooms can start to feel a little cramped, especially as our family grows, but there’s plenty of ways to regain some space again!

  • Upgrade your toilet - As you complete your bathroom remodel, replacing the toilet with a wall-hung alternative can quickly gain you an extra foot or so of space.

  • Install custom cabinets - Space in the bathroom is tough as it is, and in many older homes especially, the storage is very limited. Treat your bathroom like your kitchen space and opt for customized cabinets to utilize the room.

  • Think outside the bath - Get creative with your bathroom to really maximize the space available. Try adding an armoire outside the bathroom door to use as a linen press for sheets and towels.

7. Welcome the sun

When Spring brings a burst of bad weather, we have to be grateful for every bit of sunshine we can get! Consider switching your dark drapes for lighter-colored versions, or remove them altogether - just be warned, your neighbors may see a little more than they ever anticipated if you do!

An easy change to make is to raise your blinds to their highest positions for maximum sunshine throughout the day.
